Day 89, April 13

Sunday, April 13th, 2008

Let it…snow?  Yes, it snowed today, and it’s almost mid-April.  Granted, there were only flurries here and there, but still - enough already!

Benjamin was greeted this morning by his big sister, Allyson.  We heard him in his room, playing in his bed.  We let Allyson go in and say good morning - he loves that.   (No, he really does love that!)  - Benjamin had a great day today.  His molar is still swollen and a little bloody, but the tip has popped through the gum now.  Thankfully, he wasn’t as crabby today as he was yesterday.  Hopefully that meant he wasn’t hurting as much.  The boy has a mouth full of teeth now…this one makes twelve!  -  Oh, he’s learned the sign for drink!  I showed him a while back and again yesterday, and he did it today on his own.  He’s so smart!

Allyson and Benjamin are really starting to play well together now.  It is really cute.  They chase each other around the house, giggling and laughing.  Both of them love to play ball, so they pass it to each other.  Most of the time, Benjamin ends up chasing it, but he loves it anyway!

Ally had a great day today as well.  She is just like the old Ally right now.  Her legs and not 100%,  but for the most part, she all good.  I’m sad to know that May will be difficult again, but for now, she can play her little heart out.  The coming week is another IV backpack week/weekend.  Those aren’t the best, but we’re getting used to them.

Day 87, April 11

Friday, April 11th, 2008

Friday, Allyson and I slept until 7:30 (that is late for us). We both got ready and headed downstairs for breakfast. Allyson had her usual, meatballs and shells and I had coffee and some cereal. Once we were done with breakfast we had enough time to watch one World Word show. Our visit to the doctors office went very well today. Nurse Heather was ready for us when we arrived. All we had to do today was a blood draw and nurse Heather is very fast. There were two other little girls in the office today and Allyson walked right over and they played kitchen for some time. The office has a very nice play area. After we left the office, I decided to surprise Allyson and take her to a special park by our house. It is called Zachery’s play ground and it is designed for kids with special needs. We did some climbing and sliding and of course we had to fly. We headed home from the park and had some lunch. After lunch I had to do some work so Allyson watched some more World Word. Once I was done we headed to Walgreens to get Allyson Chemo for the week and then we went to get Benjamin.

Benjamin had a great day at Tita’s and he was very excited to see me today. We headed home and had dinner and then it was time for Benjamin to take a bath. Once he was done we all headed downstairs to play.

Lisa got to go out with a friend tonight which I am sure was needed, so I had a fun time playing Mr. Mom.

Until tomorrow…

Day 86, April 10

Thursday, April 10th, 2008

Sorry we missed posting yesterday…

Allyson had a great week at school this week.  Several of her teachers told us she had great days at school.  YIPPIE!  As we’ve said, we’ll take ‘em when we can get ‘em.

Ally has an easy day tomorrow at the docs.  All she has to do is give a blood sample (hopefully).  Brad is going to take her in late tomorrow morning.  Next week begins a stretch of more difficult treatments.  Next weekend is a backpack weekend.  The following week, she gets her first ECHO done on her heart.  They need to get a baseline because one of the chemo drugs she’ll get in May can “mess” with her heart.  She’ll need to get another ECHO later this summer, and then again each year for the next six years.

Benjamin ate a banana for dinner.  When I brought it to the table to cut up for him, he said, “banana!”  We had no idea he could say that word!  He sounds really cute when he says it.  Of course, we thought it was awesome, so he just kept repeating it :-).

We’re looking forward to the weekend.  Hopefully we can get some good family time in…if the weather cooperates!

Day 84, April 8

Tuesday, April 8th, 2008

Well, Ms. Robin, Allyson’s daycare teacher called me this afternoon to tell me what a great day she had! She ate all her lunch (the most she’s eaten since she’s been back), played all day with her friends and was her old self again. Such good news! We’ll take the good days whenever we can!!

Benjamin had another great day at Tita’s. He’s been much better since his teeth came in. There’s one molar that still needs to poke through, so I am sure we’re in for one more round of fussy Benjamin.

Allyson and Benjamin are really starting to play well together. He still wants everything she is playing with though.  This evening when I was on my way upstairs with Benjamin to put him to bed, Allyson stopped me so she could give him a kiss goodnight.  (This has become an nightly ritual for her.)

Benjamin loves his new word, “Melmo”…that’s Elmo. Funny thing though…we have the Tickle Me Elmo that laughs and rolls around on the floor. Benjamin HATES it! He’s afraid of it. He likes Elmo if he’s just sitting there. If you turn it on, he cries. It is a little loud…

Day 83, April 7

Monday, April 7th, 2008

We were up and out as usual this morning.  Ally had a good day at school, and Benjamin had a great day at Tita’s.  It was so nice after dinner this evening that Ally and Brad went outside to swing for a bit before her bath.

Benjamin loves being in the tub…tonight, he was all over the place.  He played and played until the water went cold.

It was the first uneventful day in quite some time…until tomorrow…
