Day 17, February 1
Well, we finally pulled the trigger. We got Allyson’s hair cut into a short bob. I saved a little of it and put it into a ziploc bag…
Tricia, my hairdresser, was kind enough to come to the house and cut Ally’s hair since we aren’t supposed to take her out in public places right now (her white blood cell count is so low). I dreaded this day and I know Brad did too. We sat in the kitchen and watched as her beautiful hair was literally chopped to half its length. For me, I really did hate to see her hair cut, but that isn’t what bothered me the most. What bothered me is that we didn’t really have a choice whether to cut it or not. The chemo cocktail she’s getting will likely cause her hair to fall out. The docs say it is much easier on the kids if their hair is cut shorter when it falls out so they don’t see such big clumps of it on their pillow. So goes the reason for the haircut…
You know, we could see her hair on the ultrasounds before she was born…
Hair, yes, it is just hair…the beautiful little soul that is our Allyson is still there, hair or no hair.
Another chemo day…just the shot and labs today. She took it like a champ. Benjamin came with us to the appointment. He made a little buddy there (a brother of another four year old with cancer). He played and played…Allyson sat at the big table today and played with stickers, one of her favorite things to do. It was really nice to see her get down off of the recliner and enjoy herself.
Oh…she is no longer accessed which means the needle is out of her port. She no longer has a tube dangling from her chest! YEAH! She’s free, at least for now.
