Day 16, January 31st
First off…Good news, good news! Dr. Rob called this afternoon and said her bone marrow looks really good (from the biopsy Tuesday). It looks like the chemo is getting rid of the leukemic cells, and he even sees what he thinks are new (good) cells forming. The spinal fluid was clear! YIPPIE! The chemo (that is our friend, not the enemy) must be doing its job. The real test will be the biopsy two weeks from now. The goal is to see at least 90% good cells so we can move to the next phase of her chemotherapy treatment.
Our friend, the chemo, really gave Ally a one/two punch today. She “woke up” this morning but was just a lump. I picked her up and took her downstairs to the couch. She wasn’t interested in food or drink…she just wanted to snuggle with her mommy. She slept in my lap for about two hours and then a little longer on the couch. She woke up wanting food but didn’t eat much. She wanted to go back to the couch and snuggle, so that is what we did. It wasn’t until about 2:30 in the afternoon when she really ate something - chicken surprise AND spaghetti in fact! She perked up a bit after that, so we played stickers for a while and colored in her Disney Princess color book.
She got really tired again at dinner time. She has a hard time keeping her eyes open sometimes and lays her head down on the table. About 7:00 this evening, she went to bed and she is now sound asleep.
Brad and I are usually in New Orleans at Mardi Gras right now. We’ll miss all the festivities and our family and friends (some we don’t get to see except for Mardi Gras). Les laissez bon temp rouler! Happy Mardi Gras everyone! We miss y’all (as you say in the South). We must stay here with the Monkey Man and Princess Allyson.
Tomorrow, we are off to trudge through the snow to another chemo appointment…
