Day 5….

We are still at Saint John’s. We had hopes of getting Allyson home today but an infection at the old site of her IV is keeping us here for a few more days :(

It seems like Allyson is one big chemistry experiment right now. Lisa and I are trying to understand all of the terminology and all of the different drugs Allyson is getting and is going to be getting; it is very overwhelming. We know that the next month is one of the most critical times in her treatment, and we have to do everything to try and keep her healthy during this time.

This morning was a good one. Allyson woke up and ate a whole cup of her soy peach yogurt. She did have to get one of here chemo drugs this morning which is a shot in her thigh. The doctors put a numbing cream on her leg about a half and hour before the shot and it makes the shot much easier for her. She did very good getting the shot. After all of the ‘fun’ we put Allyson in the wagon and went down to the Ronald McDonald room (she calls it the kitchen). This room is great! It is bright, has a large TV and is stocked with food and drink that is all donated. We are very thank to have some place to go and relax other than her room. The volunteers are wonderful. They bake cookies and bring special snacks. Today we are having “pigs in an blanket” while watching the football game. Allyson is of course watching the Backyardigans on her DVD player.
